Run For Your Wife

Run for Your Wife is a classic Ray Cooney farce. The story revolves around London cabby John Smith who has two homes, two wives and two lives which he juggles with meticulous expertise until he is mugged at work. Admitted to hospital and dazed as a result of a blow to his head, his schedule is thrown into chaos as his duel identity is brought to light and he embarks on an elaborate cover up plan. His main source of support comes form neighbour Stanley Gardener while his troubles are added to by two suspicious policemen and the intervention of a second, rather camp and harassed neighbour.

Jeff has performed in this play on numerous occasions in London’s West End for several seasons, foreign and national tours and in this instance on board the P&O cruise liners Aurora and Oriana. He has also portrayed no less than three of its characters, the leading roles of John Smith and Stanley Gardener and for this production, the outrageously flamboyant and somewhat effeminate Bobby Franklin.

Also appearing with him on board was then soon to be wife Judy Buxton performing in both Run for Your Wife and Funny Money. The couple joined the ship in San Francisco then sailed to Sydney via Honolulu, Pago Pago and Auckland NZ, performing on route before enjoying a three day stop over in Sydney. They then boarded another ship in P&O’s fleet, the Oriana to repeat the performances sailing back to San Francisco via Auckland, Bora Bora, Tahiti, Honolulu and Vancouver.

Writer Ray Cooney not only directed both plays but was also a member of both casts along with Trevor Bannister and Henry McGee.
